Evening Walk Among the Lights 2026/27
Take time … to celebrate together
On Friday, 20 November 2026, Arboretum Volčji Potok will be the first place in Slovenia to switch on its festive lights and open a new season of the Evening Walk Among the Lights.
Arboretum Volčji Potok is a large botanical park in central Slovenia, located around 25 kilometres from Ljubljana and around 20 kilometres from Ljubljana Airport. Its mature trees, meadows, winding paths and lakes create a landscape that changes throughout the seasons.
During the festive period, visitors have a rare opportunity to experience this landscape after dark. Botanical parks in this part of Europe are rarely illuminated on this scale and opened for evening visits, which makes the Evening Walk Among the Lights a particularly distinctive winter experience.
This year, 2,300,000 lights will illuminate the park, with light strings stretching for a total of 40 kilometres.
Now in its sixth year, the Evening Walk Among the Lights invites visitors of all generations to slow down, leave everyday routines behind and make time for each other.
Come as a couple, with family or with friends. Walk through the illuminated park, stop at your favourite displays, take a photo, warm up with a hot drink and enjoy an evening together.
The Evening Walk Among the Lights will take place from 20 November 2026 to 10 January 2027.
Arboretum in a completely different light
This year, the light installations are even more closely connected with nature.
Carefully designed lighting follows the contours of the landscape and highlights trees, their canopies, paths and water surfaces, transforming familiar parts of the park into entirely new evening scenes. The light does not cover the park. It reveals a different side of it.
Along the way, you will discover the Tower of Jewels, where hanging lights multiply in reflective surfaces, the Glowing Meadow, with twice as many illuminated flowers as last year, the Endless Tunnel, whose end remains hidden around a bend, and Waltz on the Lake, where glowing skaters appear to glide across the water.
The lake will also become home to the Enchanted Floating Forest, with ten illuminated spruce trees. In front of the manor, the Golden Fairytale will shine. Visitors will be able to walk through the Solar Circles, while towards the end of the chestnut avenue the Enchanted Dancers will appear, ten illuminated figures with names inspired by planets, stars, constellations and mythology.
Along the route, you will also discover Dandelion Sparks, Shimmering Curtains, the Magic of Illuminated Trees, the Romantic Bridge with Streams of Light, Poetry of Light Among the Beeches, the Waterfall of Blue Sparks, the Golden Ginkgo, Shooting Stars, the Illuminated Promenade and many other festive surprises.
Around every corner, a new light display, a different view of the park or a place you may never have noticed during the day awaits.
75 years of Arboretum. 75 metres of wishes.
This year, the Evening Walk Among the Lights will also tell a very special story.
Arboretum Volčji Potok will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2027, and visitors will help us begin the anniversary year together. During the festive season, one enormous shared letter to Santa will gradually take shape, measuring at least 75 metres, one metre for every year of Arboretum.
You will be invited to add your own wish for the future. Big or small. Playful or serious. A wish for yourself, for someone you love, for nature, for your community or for the world around us.
Every new wish will add a few more centimetres to the letter, which will remain in Arboretum until the collection of wishes is complete. Will it reach 75 metres, 100 metres or perhaps even more?
Santa’s Village will also be part of the festive experience, with seven little houses, a tower, a well and a maze. Younger visitors will meet Fairy Marjetica, elves and reindeer, and they too will be able to add their wish to the great shared letter.
Once all the wishes have been collected, the letter will be unrolled and measured. It will then be sent with Pošta Slovenije towards Santa in Lapland.
Festive moments beyond the walk
The Evening Walk Among the Lights is more than a display of festive lights.
On selected evenings, the courtyard of the historic estate will come alive with live music, gatherings around the fire and a festive market. The café will be open every evening, serving hot drinks and seasonal treats.
Warm up with a hot drink, enjoy something sweet and make your festive evening last a little longer.
The shop by the entrance, open every day of the year, also offers a selection of gifts and small treats for yourself or someone special.
Easy to reach from Ljubljana
Arboretum Volčji Potok is located at Volčji Potok 3, 1235 Radomlje, within easy reach of Ljubljana and Ljubljana Airport.
It is around 25 kilometres from the centre of Ljubljana and around 20 kilometres from Ljubljana Airport, making the Evening Walk Among the Lights easy to include in a winter stay in Ljubljana or a festive day trip through central Slovenia.
A large free car park is available directly at the park, with space for cars and coaches.

From 1 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, visitors arriving after 7 pm receive a 25% discount.
