An accessible park is a place where everyone can feel welcome. At Arboretum and Botanical Gardens Volčji Potok, accessibility means more than being able to enter and move around the park. It means enabling people with different needs and abilities to experience nature safely and comfortably.
As a public botanical park, our mission is to protect valuable plant collections and bring nature closer to people. We therefore work to reduce barriers, provide clear information and develop suitable routes, resting places and forms of support.

Accessibility in the park
The Arboretum covers approximately 80 hectares of historic parkland. Paths vary in surface, width and gradient, and outdoor conditions may change depending on the weather.
Visitors can choose from routes of different lengths. Paths in the central part of the park are generally firm and gently sloping, although some sections may require assistance. Staff at the entrance can recommend a route based on the preferred distance and current conditions.
Parts of the park can be explored by wheelchair, mobility aid or pushchair. Some steeper areas and buildings are not currently accessible to wheelchair users.
Two wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge. Advance reservation is recommended to ensure availability.
An approximately one-kilometre circular route is suitable for independent walking by blind and partially sighted visitors. Its light-coloured, unobstructed surface provides good visual contrast, while the guiding edge supports orientation for white cane users.
Accessible toilets are available near the park entrance and at another location inside the park. Please ask staff at the entrance for directions to both facilities.
Explore the park by electric train
The electric road train offers an opportunity to discover the wider landscape of the Arboretum and see areas located farther from the main entrance. During the journey, passengers can enjoy views of gardens, plant collections, meadows, lakes and mature trees.
The train has 56 seats and space for two wheelchairs. The journey takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes. In fine weather, it operates from March to October.
The Memory Path
With accessibility in mind, we created the Memory Path. This approximately one-kilometre route was designed for people living with dementia or experiencing memory difficulties, as well as their families, friends, carers and companions.
The path is also suitable for anyone who would like to enjoy a shorter, calmer walk or connect with nature through the senses. Everyone can experience it in their own way and at their own pace.
The path has a firm surface suitable for wheelchair users. A slow walk takes approximately one hour. Benches and the shade of mature trees provide opportunities to pause and rest.
Along the route, nature can be explored through sight, smell, touch and sound. The trail also passes through the Fragrant Garden, where aromatic plants offer a rich sensory experience.

A wheelchair, an activity basket with natural objects and an English-speaking companion trained to support people living with dementia can be arranged in advance. These services are free of charge; only the regular park admission fee applies.
Parking and public transport
Free parking is available for cars and buses. Designated accessible parking spaces are located close to the park entrance.

Visiting with a dog
Dogs are welcome in the Arboretum. A ticket is required for pet dogs. Dogs must remain on a lead throughout the park, except inside the designated dog exercise area.
